A little introduction…
I don’t think I have ever made a formal introduction for New Mercies Bloom…in which case it is high time!
I’m Marti, and flowers have always been a passion of mine. I got into serious trouble when I was around 4 or 5 for picking my neighbors tulips to give to my mom. (The neighbor was very kind about it, thankfully.) And then for picking the purple-throated red poppies that my grandma had planted on the old homestead. And for picking the soft pink, old English roses from another bed planted by same grandma. I guess you’d say I have a habit of picking flowers. And I’d have to reply, “There are worse ones!” 🫣
Flowers are delightful to me because they are beautiful when viewed en masse in a landscape or when focusing on their delicate details. They have scents that can be carried on the wind and that create memories carried into the future. And the fact that there are so many forms, colors, and sizes means I can never become bored while working with them. Each petal, stamen, and stem in their various shades is a unique brushstroke within this art form called floristry.

So yeah, flowers are my thing. And the only experience better than growing and designing with them, is seeing the looks on folks’ faces when they receive them. What is it about flowers that speaks so sweetly to our souls? I don’t have the answer…but I am glad that these breathtaking blooms allow one heart to feel seen by another. And that I get to be a part of it.
On that note, Mother’s Day is coming up in less than a month. Do you have a plan for flowers for Mom yet? I wouldn’t suggest you go out and pick your neighbors’ tulips! But New Mercies Bloom is ready and able if you’d like to get something that speaks where words may fail. Just follow this link to shop.
Sugar-plums and fairies
During the holiday season evergreens and poinsettias abound, but did you know there is another vibrant, easy-to-grow option?
This time of year always reminds me of the Nutcracker ballet. When I was younger, I wanted to be a professional ballerina! Luckily, as I grew up I had the opportunity to train and then dance almost every part in the Nutcracker. I loved (and still do love) everything about ballet - the music, the theatrics, the athleticism, the grandeur of it all.
You may already know this but a great dancer needs both expressive musicality and beautiful lines. Ballet is all about the LINES. Whether it is soft curves, sharp straight points, or jarring angles, the lines help communicate the emotion of the music and reflect the story being told.
Maybe it is my background in dance, or maybe it is just my hopelessly romantic personality, but Amaryllis with their tall straight stems and flirty, frilly flowers evoke some of the same admiration and delight as the ballet for me. It only makes sense then to include these beautiful flowers in my holiday decor. Plus who doesn’t want fresh, gorgeous flowers every time of the year?!
It is with much joyful anticipation, therefore, that I introduce to you my Christmas season’s offerings: The Amaryllis!
Amaryllis ‘Olaf’
Poinsettias and evergreens abound for Christmas decor, but Amaryllis are another vibrant, easy-to-grow option. They thrive indoors with minimal care and flaunt long-lasting winter flowers, with the potential to bloom for years to come. You can choose to stick to the usual wreath or poinsettia and fade in with the crowd…Or you can stand out with an arrangement as unique as yourself!
And don’t let the fear of a black thumb deter you from trying them this season. They are surprisingly simple! With every purchase you’ll receive thorough directions and personal support to ensure your flowers bloom their best.
Now, I know what you are thinking. “What makes New Mercies Bloom’s amaryllis bulbs and arrangements soooooo special?” Amaryllis have been around for years, and the kits you’ve bought at the local box store have been beautiful enough. So what’s the big deal?! Well, the bigger the bulb, the bigger the show!! The bulbs I have sourced are some of the largest available in the world. Each of them will produce 3-4 stems carrying a whopping 3-5 flowers EACH. When I say these flowers will put on a show, I mean they put on a stop-you-in-your-tracks, take-your-breath-away masterpiece.
